Basics of CBC In the Cognitive Behavioral
Cycle (CBC),
mistakes in thinking produce negative emotions... that produce self-defeating behaviors... that reinforce
negative thinking... that produces problematic emotions... that produce... You can see how the
vicious cycle degrades work and life. Cognition -- the "C"
in CBC Each of us creates in our lives what we expect -- order or
mess, success or struggle, love or loneliness. People
frequently don't expect the best because they suffer mistakes in thinking like these: • Blaming -- casting responsibility onto others. • Catastrophizing -- imagining small problems erupting into cataclysms. • Jumping to conclusions -- interpreting negatively; creating self-fulfilling
expectations. • Shoulding -- “I (You) should/have to…” producing guilt, resentment, anger
and blame. • "Dexifying”
-- weakly defending, explaining
and justifying yourself, instead of resolving issues.
Thinking produces emotions. Emotions produce...
Behavior -- the "B" in CBC Do your actions produce positive or problematic outcomes? When you have habits like these, you will continue suffering the
same consequences again and again:
• Procrastinating on tasks and commitments; being habitually
late. • Disorganization; “losing” or "forgetting" things. • Failing to follow through on agreements or being unclear what agreements you make. • Perfectionism -- investing more and more effort for ever smaller improvements, perhaps
seen only by the perfectionist. • Overeating, smoking, and other substance abuse -- attempting
to stuff or deflect unsettling feelings. Results With Cognitive/Behavioral Coaching you can
very effectively remedy mistaken thinking like mind reading and perfectionism. We will replace problematic
emotions and the habits they produce, like
disorganization and stopping-half-way, that waste opportunities and degrade your quality-of-life.
The trifecta
of clear thinking, positive emotions, and dependable follow-through will boost your confidence and ability to get things
done, so that people see you as a reliable colleague, partner and friend. Soon you'll enjoy the benefits of a new and far, far
better way of being.

Two-Track Change Management
Process
Many coaches and counselors use the Cognitive/Behavioral process, and like any tool, results depend to a large extent on the skill and creativity of the
practitioner. We have found that clients get excellent results -- faster , deeper, lasting, positive changes in how
they think and act -- when Cognitive/ Behavioral Coaching advances changes simultaneously on two tracks: 1) The psychological/ emotional track that we call Passion, and 2)
The practical track we call Purpose. Passion is the inner
track delivering qualitative changes to thoughts and feelings. Purpose is the outer track producing
quantitative changes in behavior. They reinforce each other to drive changes deeply and make them permanent. Quantitative and qualitative... logical and intuitive... rational and emotional... left and right brains...
